To generate a PDF file in InDesign or Illustrator, you first must import or create a preset that has the settings that PDF will inherit from the open file. Access the “File” menu from the “Adobe PDF Presets” option and then “Define”.

In the “Adobe PDF Presets” window, if you are going to create a new preset you must first define the default PDF to be used by checking the option in the “Presets” item. Then click “New” to create a preset. To load an existing preset, simply click on “Upload”. Then the “Edit PDF Export Preset” window will open, where the user must select the options to close the pages.

The “General” tab of the “Edit PDF Export Preset” window allows the user to define how the pages will be closed (batch closing or loose pages), and other important options.

The “Compacting” tab of the “Edit PDF Export Preset” window does not need to be edited by the user, since this screen is already configured based on ISO standards, according to the PDF platform.

In the “Marks and Bleeds” tab of the “Edit PDF Export Preset” window, the user must select the “Bleed and Spacer” option and in the “Marks” settings keep only the “Marks” and the “page“. It is also important that the user changes the default “Offset” value from 2.117 mm to at least 3 mm.

The “Output” tab of the “Edit PDF Export Preset” window is very important for color management in PDF. First, the user must select the option “Convert to destination (preserve numbers)” from the item “Color conversion” and then select the color conversion profile “FOGRA 39L” from the item “Destination”. After checking these options, the system will automatically configure the “Output profile name” with the same destination profile, the “FOGRA 39L”.

The “Advanced” tab setting in the “Edit PDF Export Preset” window relates to the weight of the file and prepares the system to properly embed the fonts in the PDF document. It is recommended that the user replace the value of 100% to 1% in the item “Fonts”.

In the “Summary” tab of the “Edit PDF Export Preset” window you do not need to edit. This screen has the function of summarizing the settings made in the preset. If the user wishes, it is possible to generate a report of the settings before or after saving the preset.
